Most Amazon devices are Wi-Fi only, so you can only download things and surf the web when you're connected to a Wi-Fi network, but you can buy some on LTE / 4G networks, which lets you access the internet when you're out and about. Here's why you shouldn't invite an Amazon Fire 7 kids tablet into your home, and why existing owners should move their children onto a different Amazon tablet. Compared to most tablets, they don't have much processing power, but they have enough for the apps that Amazon allows on them. On the other hand, you can't play games, watch movies or listen to music on Kindle devices - they're just for reading.įire tablets don't have many productivity apps though, they're mainly for the fun stuff. Some Amazon-rival services, like Netflix and Spotify, are available too though.īecause of the particular services available, Amazon Fire tablet devices are considered portable entertainment devices. You can stream video from Amazon Prime Video, music from Prime Music, and read books from the Kindle service, and the app store only contains Amazon-approved apps. What this means is that the tablets encourage (well, force) you to use the company's suite of apps. Thanks to this you can read work documents, as well as scientific papers or books from Project Gutenberg, for example, on your device.įire tablets run the popular operating system Android, but with Amazon's own Fire user interface laid over the top. Not everyone knows, but you don't have to limit your reading to the Amazon Kindle Store - you're actually able to upload your own PDFs and other files to your Kindle. The Kindle Store isn't just for books though - there are plays, poems, magazines and comic books too. Some Kindles also have access to Goodreads, a social reading tool (so you can log the books you read and compare them with your friends). You can access the Kindle Store to buy and download books, and can also look at your Kindle library to see your downloaded books. What you'll be doing on your Amazon Kindle or Fire tablet device really depends on the software - that means, the programs and apps loaded onto the thing.Īs Amazon Kindle devices are designed purely for reading, the services you get are a little limited. Newer Fire tablets last for about twelve hours of use between charges, which makes them good for car journeys or entertaining kids.Īmazon Kindle vs Amazon Fire tablet software and performance In terms of battery life, all Amazon devices are pretty stellar compared to most competitors, but Kindles are the best.ĭepending on your Kindle device, it can last up to six weeks between charges, if you're reading for half an hour per day - that's a lot of charge, so Kindles are great for holidays if you don't want to bring a charger.Īmazon Fire tablets don't last quite as long, but that makes sense, because E Ink is known for being great for battery conservation. Kindles don't have cameras though, so you can't take pictures with them. Here are the best Amazon Fire tablet dealsĪmazon Kindle vs Amazon Fire tablet cameras and battery lifeĪmazon Fire tablets generally have a camera on both the rear and the front, so they can be used for taking photos or video calling, but the cameras usually have quite low resolutions, and your average smartphone will beat them.In terms of waterproofing, different Fire tablet and Kindle devices have different ratings, so we'd recommend looking up your specific device before reading a book in the pool. Most Fire tablet devices have 3.5mm headphone jacks - these are the circular ones you plug headphones into - but Kindles generally don't, as they don't have any apps to play music. The exception is Kindle Oasis devices, as you can use these to listen to electronic readings of books. Tap next to any call to open the info screen. Sample partners include Bartell Drugs in Seattle, WA and Parkside Compounding Pharmacy in Sacramento, CA. In less than a year, Nimble has built a wide-reaching network of pharmacies that reaches more than 100 million consumers across the US. “In less than a year, Nimble has begun to transform the pharmaceutical industry by bringing this capability to pharmacies across the country and giving millions of customers who shop at these locations access to prescription delivery.” They lack the infrastructure needed to offer the same integrated delivery service available from larger retailers,” said Talha Sattar, CEO of Nimble. “The rise of the on-demand economy has placed a large burden on local and regional pharmacies. The service provides a web-based platform for scheduling on-demand prescription delivery. For consumers, Nimble simplifies the pharmacy experience and creates easy delivery options through a mobile app or text experience. To date, those businesses that have worked with Nimble have improved their patient satisfaction to an average Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 75 as well as growing their margins through increased purchase frequency. The company enables local and independent pharmacies to quickly enter the mobile economy and offer a reliable service without having to build their own technology. To address this gap in the market, Nimble launched its on-demand, same-day prescription delivery service in early 2019. These businesses are striving to keep up with consumer expectations and match the speed and convenience offered by the on-demand economy. Nimble partners with the independent, local and regional pharmacies that make up half of more than 60,000 pharmacies nationwide. Until late 2018, Nimble operated a direct-to-consumer pharmacy model through its own distribution centers but changed course upon identifying the massive market opportunity in helping bring independent pharmacies into the digital and mobile economy. The company is already working with 600 pharmacies around the country, including chain, independent, and specialty pharmacies, and has quickly reached $150 million in annual run-rate revenue. Nimble’s online and in-app platform provides pharmacy customers with a simplified fulfillment and delivery solution from these local businesses. 13, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - NimbleRx today formally unveiled itself as the first service focused on empowering independent pharmacies to offer convenient, on-demand delivery. The only real pushback is about what jokes are funny.” “Our writers’ room is a pretty diverse group. “There’s never been any pushback,” Richmond said. But according to the creators, the entire room was always onboard. In most writers’ rooms, including non-traditional characters in these roles would take some convincing. The Dragon Prince is filled with varying skin tones, accents and people of differing abilities. “We imagined this as something Amaya developed over the years: She didn’t want anyone to ever get anything by her, so this is something she’d put time into.” “We knew how uncommon it is in the deaf community to be able to read lips well,” Ehasz said. Viewers learn that this is how she “listens” to other characters when Amaya tells the elf character Rayla to look at her when she’s talking to her. The team did their homework in an attempt to properly depict Amaya, but there’s one area where the creators admit they sacrificed authenticity for smoother storytelling - whether Amaya would be able to read lips, Ehasz said. “We had all of the animators look at reference video to properly animate the character’s speech.” “Our writers’ room is a pretty diverse group. to sign what we wanted Amaya to say, making sure it was all correct,” Richmond said. Amaya speaks using American Sign Language, or ASL, meaning the animators were tasked with properly depicting the intricacies of sign language in a cartoon. “On the production side, the biggest task was making sure everything was accurate,” Justin Richmond, Dragon Prince’s other co-creator, said over the phone. It was a huge challenge, but worth it to get those details right.” We encouraged the writers to dive into all of this and understand as much as they could. “We had a lot of conversations with people we knew who were deaf or hard of hearing, with interpreters and with organizations that support the deaf community. “As we brought Amaya to life, it was critical to us that she felt authentic,” Ehasz said. Realizing General Amaya in Dragon Prince wasn’t easy for the team. There’s a reason animated shows aren’t teeming with characters who use sign language. “Creating Amaya was a huge challenge, but worth it to get the details right.” These traits live on in Dragon Prince’s Amaya. “Instead of making Toph a big, male character, we wanted to make her a small, female character whose presence was huge.” Toph’s lack of sight allowed her to approach battles in ways other characters wouldn’t. “Toph was Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko’s idea, originally,” Ehasz said. At any given moment in a battle, when everyone else is distracted by the noise and chaos of the fight, Amaya is focused and in the zone.”įans of Avatar: The Last Airbender, a show Ehasz worked on for three years, might be reminded of the character Toph, who was blind. “The senses she was born with have shaped who she is. “Her deafness is integrated into her skillset as a general,” Ehasz said in a phone interview. Anything above that threshold will be removed.According to Dragon Prince co-creators Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond, Amaya’s deafness was a deliberate choice on their part. One kilonewton, 1 kN, is 102.0 kgf, or about 100 kg of load. Where units are commonly in kilonewtons, a common rule of thumb is to multiply the kilonewton value by a factor of 100 to get the kilograms. For example, the tractive effort of a Class Y steam train and the thrust of a an F100 fighter jet are both around 130 kN. 441 N = 45 kg × 9.80665 m/s 2 Commonly seen as kilonewtonsĪ newton is not much force, so it is common to see forces expressed in kilonewtons, or kN, where 1 kN = 1000 N. 566 N = 57.7 kg (average adult weight in Asia) × 9.80665 m/s 2 791 N = 80.7 kg (average adult weight in North America) × 9.80665 m/s 2īench pressing 100 pounds (45 kg) takes a little under 450 N of force. The weight of an average adult exerts a force of about 550 - 800 N. ExamplesĪt average gravity on earth, (conventionally g = 9.806 65 m/s 2), a kilogram mass exerts a force of about 9.8 newtons, and one newton is the force exerted by about half a medium-sized apple. Where F: force M: mass L: length T: time. Where the following symbols are used for the units: N: newton kg: kilogram m: metre s: second. Newton's second law of motion states that F = ma, where F is the force applied, m is the mass of the object receiving the force, and a is the acceleration of the object. Note that "degree Celsius" conforms to this rule because the "d" is lowercase.- Based on The International System of Units, section 5.2. However, when an SI unit is spelled out in English, it should always begin with a lower case letter ( newton)-except in a situation where any word in that position would be capitalized, such as at the beginning of a sentence or in material using title case. As with every International System of Units (SI) unit named for a person, the first letter of its symbol is upper case (N). This SI unit is named after Isaac Newton. The newton thus became the standard unit of force in le Système International d'Unités (SI), or International System of Units. The MKS system then became the blueprint for today's SI system of units. In 1948 the 9th CGPM resolution 7 adopted the name "newton" for this force. In 1946 Conférence Générale des Poids et Mesures (CGPM) resolution 2 standardized the unit of force in the MKS system of units to be the amount needed to accelerate 1 kilogram of mass at the rate of 1 metre per second squared. One newton is the force needed to accelerate one kilogram of mass at the rate of one metre per second squared. |
